About us

Chronoglide is a place where craftsmanship, precision, and a love of watches converge. Born from a passion for technology, it has grown into an independent center for restoration and education.

"A watch tells more than just time. It tells a story worth sharing."

– Kalle Slaap

About Kalle

Kalle is a professional watchmaker with years of experience restoring high-end mechanical watches. What began as a personal fascination with gears and balance springs grew into a life mission: to preserve and pass on the craft. With Chronoglide, he shares not only his knowledge but also his dedication to quality, integrity, and precision.

Many people are passionate about watches, especially those with beautiful vintage pieces. For the wearer, they are often a feast for the eyes, or their love revolves around the magic of the timepiece.

At Kalle Slaap, that passion goes a step further: (vintage) watches are an obsession. And that's especially true of the inner workings. That enchanting, technical universe. This obsession left Kalle no choice but to become a watch technician.

Of course, he appreciates a beautiful piece of design. He understands that a watch is a wrist ornament for you and, above all, understands that it often carries enormous emotional value. And that this can also apply to a simple watch. In any case, Kalle's obsession is ever-present. For the inside. For the mechanism. The beating heart. To get it in perfect condition.

About Chronoglide

Chronoglide specializes in the restoration and repair of high-quality mechanical watches. From our workshop, we restore timepieces with the utmost care and respect for the original. But our mission goes even further: we want to share knowledge, train professionals, and inspire watch enthusiasts.

Repairing or restoring watches requires the utmost concentration, which is why our workshop is open to visitors on a limited basis. This allows us to use our time and our team to get your watch back in perfect condition. To say that your watch, whether vintage or ultramodern, expensive or dirt-cheap, is in the best hands with Kalle Slaap and his crew is an understatement. Our Mission Values:

  • Quality
  • Integrity
  • Knowledge & Expertise
  • Respect for tradition and technology

Share our knowledge

Our passion for the craft is evident in everything we do: from restorations and courses to our book "Watchmaking Explained" and a transparent YouTube channel. We're building an academy where knowledge is accessible to everyone—whether you're a beginner or a professional.

I am a complete beginner, is the Watch Restoration Course right for me?2025-08-16T23:31:29+02:00

The 5-day watch restoration course is perfectly fine for beginners and advanced watchmakers. The course is designed to each students individual level and the projects that you will be working on, will be targeted to your level. The theoretical part is therefore also designed for individual skill and knowledge levels.

Where should I stay when I visit Chronoglide?2025-08-16T23:28:20+02:00

The Chronoglide workshop is situated in the small, but beautiful, typical Dutch, town of Grootschermer. The town itself houses only one restaurant, one watchmaking store, and that’s about it. There is a parking lot right opposite the workshop.

We don’t have any arrangements with hotels and/or bed and breakfasts.

Students often find Airbnb’s in the town of Grootschermer, or its direct surroundings, which makes it easy to commute to and from the workshop, but leaves out a little action after class. Getting to Grootschermer by public transportation from Amsterdam, Alkmaar and Schiphol Airport is possible, but it will take a while as busses are not that regular in Grootschermer.

Another great option is to stay in the town of Alkmaar, a medium sized Dutch Town, with a lovely old city center and plenty of places to stay and eat. A rental car is convenient as the bus from Alkmaar to Grootschermer is not the best of options. Check with hotels on parking options.

Some students have stayed in Amsterdam. The drive is 45 minutes to an hour (without traffic). Amsterdam of course has numerous places to stay and eat.

What do I need to bring to the course I booked2025-08-17T09:53:51+02:00

You can leave all your watchmaking tools and gadgets at home. From the moment you walk into the workshop on the first day of your training, everything is inclusive. You will be given an overcoat, and you will have access to all our tools that you will need during your training.

We rather not have you bring your own tools as this will cause confusion and we have seen tools disappear from the shop.

Of course, coffee, cookies and lunch are included. If you have any dietary restrictions, please email us beforehand.

How fast does the book ship out?2025-09-01T11:41:55+02:00

Watchmaking Explained will ship out the same day if ordered before 14.00 local time Central European Time. If ordered after 14.00 it will ship the next business day.

In what language is the book Watchmaking Explained written?2025-08-16T23:09:52+02:00

Watchmaking Explained is written in English. The videos that support the book through the QR-codes are in English as well.

Can I visit your workshop and get a tour?2025-08-16T22:40:38+02:00

You are always welcome during our regular opening hours; the coffee is ready. We ask for your understanding that we are busy with our work and that visits and tours can last a maximum of 20 minutes.

Can you appraise my watch?2025-08-16T06:44:39+02:00

We do not appraise watches. We specialize in watch restoration and repair. For a quick appraisal, you can visit Chrono24.com, for example.

I am very passionate about watches and watch repair, can you advice me on parts and/or repairs I would like to carry out myself?2025-08-16T23:07:47+02:00

Unfortunately, we are unable to assist you with this. Our schedules are already filled with our own work, and furthermore, specific advice about repairs is only possible if we have the watch physically in our possession. However, you can watch our YouTube videos, which explain a lot about watch repairs.

What are the cost of fixing or restoring my watch?2025-08-16T23:08:08+02:00

Every watch has its own wear and tear pattern, and every owner has specific needs. We guarantee the quality of our repairs, and in order to provide an accurate cost estimate, we will first need to physically inspect the watch before drawing up a work and cost plan. The cost of this inspection will be deducted if you decide to have the service or repair carried out by us.

When does the next training start?2025-08-16T23:08:23+02:00

Please take a look at our website under ‘Training to see the upcoming trainings. Please click here to see our current training offerings: https://www.chronoglide.nl/training-2/

How long does a watch repair take?2025-08-16T23:08:33+02:00

Of course, this depends on the complexity of the repair. For a battery change, you can wait for the repair. For all other repairs we take the watch in, and strive to come back with a quote and timeframe for the repair within 3 business days. All repairs are finished with a 10 day period of testing, therefore the repairs will take a minimum of 3 weeks, and we strive to have all repairs fixed within 8 weeks.
